Seani Rananga

Seani Rananga is a South African Computer Scientist and data scientist with a background in machine learning, natural language processing, and misinformation detection. She is currently a Lecturer at the University of Pretoria, in Pretoria South Africa, and an active Senior group member for the Data Science for Social Impact (DFSI) at the University, led by Professor Vukosi Marivate. Seani is a PhD candidate in Computer science, researching on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Misinformation/Disinformation detection for African languages, commonly called Low Resource Languages. Seani's research interests include deep learning, machine learning, Natural Language Processing(NLP), Large language models(LLM) misinformation detection, sentiment analysis, Generative AI, Retrieval Augmented Generation(RAG), SQL queries for Natural Language processing and Dynamic spectrum allocation, Network slicing and 5G. She has published several papers and Journal in these areas and is a regular speaker at conferences and workshops. In addition to her work in technology, Seani is also a passionate advocate for education (especially teaching and Learning)and social justice. She is a volunteer mentor for several youth development programs and is a regular speaker at schools and community centers.
