A doctoral candidate at the University of Pretoria, my area of expertise lies within Natural Language Processing (NLP). My research is primarily centered on the fusion of AI and NLP within the educational domain. Specifically, I'm investigating the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) like Llama to enhance Automated Essay Scoring (AES) by improving its precision and effectiveness. I'm particularly focused on employing transfer learning techniques to refine AES, with an emphasis on fine-tuning existing models. Additionally, I'm exploring how in-context learning impacts the accuracy of these fine-tuned models in comparison to traditional methods. My drive to pursue this research originates from a strong passion for discovering how AI can elevate the quality of education in Africa.
